Bideford 1-0 Winchester City
All good things have to come to an end at some point, it was a tough game in rubbish conditions against an extremely physical and direct side! Annoyingly we dealt with the long ball stuff fairly well and it was the 1 bit of quality they produced and it was a stunning strike to be fair!
Unfortunately we were without Rob Carr due to work commitments and Graham Williams who had a family health issue that meant he missed the game with our blessing! Also Griggsy travelled but during the warm up he was not fit enough to be on the bench. Game had very little quality about it, we didn’t get our game going apart from a few passages of play that were good. They were launching it from back to front constantly and long throws getting set up on both sides. In fact a comment from their bench to the keeper who was thumping it long was ‘kick it higher still!’ It really was tough to deal with it. We came in 0-0 and had played the better football although wasn’t really anything in the game.
2nd half, more of the same... although I thought we were a bit more on the front foot initially. Again though very little created at either end, then their forward got in on the right hand side and unleashed a fantastic strike to give them the crucial lead. We huffed and puffed but couldn’t get the gilt edged chance, we did hit the post through a great strike by Ty but couldn’t get level. Well done to Bideford on their win!
I absolutely won’t be critical of the boys, run they have been on has been phenomenal, we just have to try and get on another decent run again if we can! We have a game against Stoneham with a St Mary’s final at stake, we will give that a good go, although Saturday is most important to us at home to Street!
Big thanks to the great support today again, first class as always!
Up the citizens!
