Winchester City made it three unbeaten so far this pre-season with a 5-3 away win at Isthmian League side, Bedfont Sports, on Saturday lunchtime, writes Matt Richbell.
With Olly Balmer missing, along with several others, City lined up with a Trialist up front, who himself netted twice.
City started brightly and went ahead inside the opening minute of the game. Simba Mlambo delivered a low ball into the box that found Rob Carr. Carr saw his shot saved, but Liam Callaghan was on hand to bury home the rebound.
Bedfont equalised on 13 minutes when they broke the offside trap before a low finish nestled in the bottom corner.
Midway through the first-half and City were back in front. Simba Mlambo was once again involved as he set up City's trialist, who scored, finishing through the keepers' legs. On 37 minutes it was 3-1 to City. Liam Gilbert had an effort from outside the box saved, but the trialist was once again on hand to score from close range.
Bedfont reduced the deficit almost instantly with a near post effort and that 3-2 scoreline was taken into the break.
The second-half was littered with substitutions throughout, with City substitute, Josh McCormick, looking lively throughout the second period.
Rob Flooks had two headed goals disallowed before City did eventually restore their two-goal cushion, with defender, Kieran Douglas, scoring from close range.
Back came Bedfont again, however, with another goal to make the score 4-3. As the game edged towards full-time, City were awarded a penalty for handball. Josh McCormick's penalty sent the keeper the wrong way to seal City's first victory this pre-season.
