City win on the Waterside
Winchester City are through to the next round of the Hampshire Senior Cup following a comprehensive 8-3 victory away at Sydenhams Wessex League Division One side, Hythe and Dibden.
The lower league opponents, featuring former Southampton and AFC Bournemouth midfielder, Jo Tessem, started brightly and went 2-0 up midway through the first-half. This kicked City into life and they pulled a goal back thanks to Simba Mlambo. City then very soon afterwards drew level thanks to a Jamie Barron penalty. The comeback was complete at the end of the first-half when Olly Balmer volleyed home from close range.
City started the second-half in a similar fashion and club stalwart, Danny King, squeezed his effort past the keeper.
Substitute, Max Smith, added a fifth for City with a well-placed low effort.
Simba Mlambo then scored his second and City's sixth, before another substitute, Oli Bailey, netted the visitors' seventh goal of the night. The scoring wasn't complete though and young midfielder, IK Hill, headed home from close range to make it 8-2.
Hythe and Dibden did score a late consolation goal, but it finished 8-3 to City at full-time on the waterside.
