Latest:Slimbridge v Winchester City match postponed

Fleet 1 Winchester City 6

on Tue 6 Dec

Winchester reached the quarter finals of the Hampshire Senior Cup with a 6-1 win at fellow Southern League club Fleet.  It was their third win at Fleet's Calthorpe Park ground and it was achieved on a night where both teams fielded mostly full strength teams.

Early on Howard Neighbour had a header tipped over the bar, while at the other end Danny King made two important interceptions at the expense of corners, one of them Ben Williamson. However a spectacular strike in the 13th minute from Stuart Green gave Winchester the lead.#

Ben White the Fleet captain had one shot blocked and shot over on one occasion, but Winchester also came close to adding a second with Adam Roberts setting up Feeney who shot wide and having other dangerous attacks.

Fleet drew level in the 35th minute through a lob from Rob Carr, but Winchester restored their lead a minute later thanks to a powerfully struck effort from Feeney.

Fleet's Ben Williamson put in a cross that no-one could get on the end of, but it required a spectacular r save to keep out a further effort from Feeney on the strike of half time.

Winchester though scored two early goals in the second half through Howard Neighbour and Joe Briggs to virtually end the match as a contest and although Noice was called on to make a couple of saves, one of them from Carr, Winchester always looked the more likely side to score again and Craig Feeney and substitute IK Hill who had replaced Feeney completed the scoring and Winchester who used all three substitutes could easily have added more on a very satisfactory night's work.
