Trophy match V Thame is postponed until next Tuesday 15th

Larkhall 0-1 Winchester City

on Sat 23 Mar

Fantastic result and ground out performance, I am so pleased and proud of everyone involved today! Larkhall are a big and powerful side and play to their strengths, we had that bit of quality to get the goal and then the strength of character to dig it out at the end!

We were without Graham Williams through injury, we were able to welcome back Rob Carr though to the squad, we started with the same starting lineup for the 3rd game in a row!

Very difficult pitch to play football on, they are a very physical side throughout the team, not the sort of game we have thrived in previously that’s for sure. We started the game fairly brightly and looked the ones who would create something, we had a few half chances but that final bounce of the ball wasn’t quite going for us, we managed to score in the end with Jamie Barron half volleying in after Gilly had a shot blocked, they were a threat from a few set pieces but we contained them well whilst causing them a fair few problems. 1-0 up at the break.

2nd half we were trying to get that killer goal but try as we did it didn’t happen, we had several good opportunities but the shot and final ball was often wayward, I was concerned that we would be made to pay for that. They had a couple of set pieces late on but we actually dealt with them extremely well and got the deserved win.

Massive win for us, a game that many would have fancied us to slip up in, we battled for each other and put bodies on the line to get the win, in many ways that is our best win in this recent run, we will need several more like that to get the improbable and unthinkable dream of play offs! All we can do it keep ticking the games off and see where it leaves us! Immensely proud of everyone and we will work hard again this week in order to get ready for Fleet next weekend.

Well done boys and also thanks to the support as always!

Up the citizens!
