Mangotsfield 1-1 Winchester

on Sat 3 Feb

Frustration is the overriding emotion today! A game that we had complete control of really and went ahead, didn’t give them a single sniff all day until 1 breakaway that we conceded a pen and 1-1! You always say a point on the road is never that bad however this one feels a lot worse than normal!

We have some injury issues at the moment and were without Josh Harfield and Liam Gilbert both from bad tackles on Wednesday, we also had Jamie Barron carrying his knee injury however he was pressed into action today, I played as well in place of Josh. We called reserve team captain Kieran Winman into the squad as well. 1st half was relatively end to end for a spell but we carved out a lot of chances that really had to be taken, we did have Prycey to thank for a couple of decent stops though. Joe Cook took an early knock and struggled onto 60/70 minutes before he has to go off! 0-0 at the break.

2nd half it was complete dominance and we didn’t give them a sniff all game, defended superbly and restricted them to 1 shot on and 1 shot off target! We dominated possession and pressed them completely. Eventually a goal from Jamie Barron got us ahead, chances came and went but they didn’t threaten at all, until a breakaway got them in and a pen was given and dispatched, 1-1 and we had to go again! We did that but no goal came, their cb was sent off for stopping a 1 on 1 by a handball and try as we might we couldn’t score!

Ultimately it’s a bad result for us as we went for the 3 points as our sole focus, however we got a point and we are still in the mix! We have to be more clinical though as that seems to have hurt us of late!

Heads up to everyone and let’s hope we can get some of the injured lads back and prepare for a big game at home to Didcot next week!

Up the citizens!!
