Player updates

on Sat 8 Aug

Been a while but thought would put an update on here in terms of players in and out and generally how it’s all gone.

Firstly I would like to say I hope everyone is staying safe and well, it’s been a hard time for everyone and the fact we had our season curtailed when we did was very hard to take! After dealing with that disappointment though we set about retaining the squad we had and seeing what else we can bring in within the obvious tight confines financially.

There is lots of good news though with us appointing Luke Hampton as our new under 23’s manager, he has a fantastic pedigree in the county and England colleges programmes and so a brilliant appointment, he will also oversee our 23’s/reserve side in the midweek league as well, so that’s great, a further update on the youth and 23’s no doubt to come soon.

Player wise the bad news, we have lost Keith Emmerson who has gone to Hungerford, obviously impossible to keep a player going 2 leagues higher and we wish him well, he leaves us with my best wishes. Similarly Oli Bailey is leaving as he is moving for work to Derbyshire and so we will not have his talents with us, I have so much time and respect for Oli and we will miss him, having said that his appearances last year was extremely limited and he found himself on the bench often when he was available due to missing games through work, so whilst it’s a massive loss in reality we missed him a lot last year! Again I wish him the very best of luck!

Final one, Ryan Pryce has a slight circumstance change which will make his availability limited at weekends so whilst he is signed and around midweeks his weekends will be limited and so we needed to bring some GK’s to the club, Prycey remains a fully signed up player and part of what we do for sure.

The rest all signed up and ready to try and pick up where we left off!! The big positive is Rob Flooks who’s availability was curtailed early last year and so we didn’t have him, that situation is now sorted and so he is as good a replacement as we could wish for in Emmo leaving so that’s great. We have also got 2 GK’s with us Charlie Philpott from Eastleigh FC and Felix Davies who was at Woking last year, so we are well stocked there now. We have signed Liam Callaghan from Eastleigh who was at Totton on loan last year and scored a lot of goals for them so he is a brilliant signing for us. In addition we have resigned Reece Rusher who has a lot of talent, also Josh McCormick a forward who was in our youth team but left and played for Bognor and Blackfield a league higher in the last couple of years, great to have him back with us.

We also have a host of trialists who we are running the rule over, there are a few gems in there who we will no doubt sign and as and when we do we will let you know, it is fair to say we have been busy and we are well set, to have retained what we have, plus signed the ones to cover (and enhance) what we have lost despite the financial uncertainties that surround football is phenomenal and the loyalty shown by our lads is immense, I just hope that we can keep ticking things over and we can be back playing in front of everyone very soon!

Stay safe and I hope you are all happy with who we have with us for another season ahead!!

Up the citizens!
