Slimbridge 1 Winchester City 1 match abandoned
Winchester travelled on Wednesday to Slimbridge whose Wisloe Road ground is located in Cambridge, Gloucestershire, but the match had to be abandoned after 53 minutes following floodlight failure.
Winchester had won on their last two visits to the ground, but prior to that it had not been a happy hunting ground for them with no wins in four attempts.
Winchester made two changes to the starting line-up from Saturday with Ollie Griggs and Max Smith both returning and replacing Alex Haynes and Dan Bradshaw both of whom dropped to the bench. Oli Bailey who had returned to the club at the start of this season was named on the bench, having scored on Winchester's last two visits to Slimbridge.
Early on Jamie Barron had an effort blocked, with Ollie Balmer's follow up shot going just wide. However Winchester took the lead in the 9th minute with Greg Peel able to get a decisive touch to Danny King's cross to the back post and score his first goal for Winchester in a competitive fixture, even if it is very unlikely to remain part of the records.
Charlie Philpott made a good sav t close range, but Slimbrodge did draw level in the 25th minute when Will Hawes scored with an excellently struck from outside the area. Before half time Jamie Barron shot just wide for Winchester.
At half time Oi Bailey came on for Ollie Griggs before the abandonment eight minutes into the second half. Manager Craig Davis was disappointed with the first half showing, but thought that they started the second half well and were very much on the front foot when play stopped. The attendance at he match was 141.
