Support the City!
As you are all aware, the world is experiencing an unprecedented situation with Covid-19 and the impact it has had on every single one of us.
Winchester City Football Club has been in existence since 1884, an incredible 136 years ago. This season has been an exceptionally challenging one for the club. The season began with uncertainty due to Brexit and the impact that would have. Once a sense of normality arrived, so too did Storms Chiara, Dennis and Jorge which caused multiple postponements on the pitch as well as significant structural damage around the ground and yet more financial difficulty off the pitch. Saturday games were hastily re-arranged for midweek evenings which created smaller crowds and subsequently less revenue. Despite the odds being stacked against the club, on the pitch, performances were surpassing expectations. The club reached the semi-finals of the League Cup before eventually losing at Cirencester Town. City also had a good run in the Southampton Senior Cup before succumbing to higher division opposition, Blackfield and Langley.
City continued to excel in the League and found themselves in fourth position following an away win at Slimbridge before the Southern League decided to postpone all fixtures. Following that and a period of uncertainty the season was ended and the entire season was sensationally declared null and void. City's fourth place, the highest in the club's history, would not go on record. Future fundraising; Gigs, Race Night, Classic Car Meet, cancelled. All matchday revenue, gone.
So having seem so many games called off due to the weather, additional monies spent on repairs following extraordinary weather, and now six home matches taken away from us due to Covid-19, your local club needs you.
The club has a dedicated hard-working committee of volunteers doing all they can but we need the support of the local community.
There is a Justgiving page, simply search 'Winchester City FC' and any support you can help with would be greatly appreciated or email email@example.com with any support that you can offer the club. Equally, when normality returns, come on down to the Simplyhealth City Ground and support the team.
Stay safe and thanks for you support!
