Torquay United 4-1 Winchester City
Well that was a special day despite a really tough result to take. To say I am proud of the whole club and to be the manager that took us there is an understatement, to have the supporters and everyone there was a credit to the whole football club, genuinely emotional to think that the boys who we pulled together on a genuine shoe string in comparison to elsewhere did that!
We had a plan to frustrate them, it worked 30 mins in, then a deflected goal after a blatant foul on simba, then a slip let them in quickly after, followed by a very good bit of play and from nowhere 3-0 down at the break!
2nd half we conceded early and it looked like it would be a really heavy score line, however the way the boys kept going and dug in and then we got a deserved goal with Joe Hayward putting a penalty away after Oli Bailey was fouled. Joe was then fouled when he was adjudged to have thrown the ball away, a second booking after a booking for a clean tackle in first half, nonsense!! We had to dig in to keep going and we did with the game ending 4-1, far from a disgrace and I was immensely proud of the way they conducted themselves.
Lots I would like to say about the officials demeanour all day from start to finish, however I will leave that alone!
Finally just to say well done my players who have been incredible and the supporters who have been just as good throughout! We now have to knuckle down and try and get back on track in the league, it’s a long road back, however we will give it a right good go!
Sorry we couldn’t push the dream 1 stage further today, I hope you all enjoyed it though!
Up the citizens!
