Winchester 0 - 2 Mangotsfield Utd
After the excellent midweek victory against Salisbury Winchester were bought back down to earth when they lost 2-0 to a Mangotsfield team that also went into the match with three points out of a possible six. The one change to the starting line-up from Wednesday saw the suspended Jamie Barron replaced by ED Dryden.
In the early stages both teams had half chances with Rob Flooks and Adam Roberts coming close for Winchester City, while at the other end Flooks had to clear at the expense of a corner. However Lewis Noice had to make the first save of note when he saved from Liam Moselle whose follow up shot was just off target.
Jamie Ford's effort following a Joe Griggs free kick was only just off target, but Winchester lost their captain Jamie Brown through injury with Ross Bottomley replacing him which caused a positional reshuffle. Eight minutes later a penalty was awarded for handball which Lewis Powell converted. Noice also had to save from Matt Groves as Mangotsfield finished the first half the stronger team.
Winchester's hopes of getting back in the match were significantly reduced three minutes into the second half Tom Warren scored with a low shot. Winchester did try and get back in the game. Howard Neighbour hit the post with a header and Adam Tomasso who produced some good overlapping runs had a shot tipped over. However Mangotsfield always looked dangerous on the break and had a goal disallowed. Although the home team introduced all three substitutes there was no doubt that Mangotsfield were worthy winners.
Winchester have a midweek fixture at Didcot as they attempt to return to winning ways.
