Winchester 0 Blackfield And Langley 1
Winchester playing in the semi final of the Hampshire Senior Cup for the third successive season were beaten 1-0 by Blackfield And Langley who are going well in the Sydenham's Wessex League. but who Winchester beat 6-0 in last season's competition.
The Winchester team showed one change to the starting line-up from the match against Barnstaple with Adam Tomasso replacing Dan Williamson who was unable to get back from London in time. Former Winchester player Liam Robinson was in the Blackfield line-up which also included Rudi Plummer who last season played for Winchester in pre-season. In addition the two managers Craig Davis and Glenn Howes were former team-mates.
Winchester started the game brightly and from a Rob Carr cross Pat Cox had an effort saved. Bailey also set up Cox whose effort was wide. Bailey and Cox forced good saves from Cox and although a powerful shot from Robinson was just off target the home team had the better of the early exchanges. They however fell behind in the 24th minute when a shot from Plummer that was going wide took a deflection off Joe Butcher and wrongfooted Ryan Ptyce.
Winchester though continued to press and Cox had a shot saved by Snelling's legs, while captain Jamie Barron was narrowly off target with a free kick. At the other end Franklin Clarke hit the bar and Robinson had another powerful shot just wide.
In the second half Winchester continued to press and created a few goalmouth scrambles, but Blackfield were defending well and getting men behind the ball to deny them clear goalscoring opportunities and the visitors did cone close a couple of times from breakaways and as the half progressed they looked increasingly likely to hold onto the lead as Winchester who introduced Josh McCormick and I K Hill as substitutes became increasingly frustrated.
