on Sun 18 Nov

Winchester's search for a first league win since August Bank Holiday continues as they were beaten 1-0 by league leaders Yate which was their third consecutive loss , but it was a game they had enough possession to have won comfortably against the league leaders.

They made two changes to the starting line-up  from Tuesday's match with Evesham.  Tyrell Mitford and Jake Rawkins came in for Rob Carr who was unavailable and Brad Gale who was on the substitutes bench with some players switching positions to accommodate these changes.

Early on Simba Mlambo had an effort blocked, while at the other end Olly Mayhew shot narrowly wide.   Olly Bailey was only fractionally off target and Tyrell Mitford had an effort deflected for a corner, but the nearest we came to a goal in the first half which Winchester had the better of was when Yate defender Elliott Keightly headed against his own woodwork.

In the second half Olly Bailey forced a good save from Thomas Lewis and despite losing Josh Harfield to injury which caused a reshuffle Winchester were even more dominant in the second half and only last ditch defending with Sam Boulton making three important blocks and shots that were just off target Winchester were unable to get the breakthrough they eagerly sought and you thought that this could come back to haunt them and in the 83rd minute substitute Sam Kamara combined with Mayhew to set up Joe Guest to score.  Up to then Ryan Pryce in the Winchester goal only had routine saves to make.

Winchester introduced all three substitutes one of whom I K Hill forced a save from Lewis and seven minutes of additional time was played, but Winchester were unable to score a goal, with even the Yate supporters wondering whether Dick Turpin was still alive.

On Tuesday Winchester are away tom Fleet and on the following Saturday they are away to Slimbridge.
