Winchester 2-0 Didcot
Well that was another eventful one but ultimately it’s a fantastic 3 points, those points came courtesy of a resolute display especially in the 1st half against that strong wind, then we came out and a wonder goal and a pen won us a crucial game against a decent side.
We were without Gilbert, Harfield and Cook who have been superb all year, to counteract that we signed Adam Brice from Gosport and put him straight in, plus Danny Cox who is well known to all at the club, plus Joe Sowden who is known to me having played at Camberley mainly, both of them were on the bench (both came on later in the game and did what we needed them to do) - Didcot has been flying and we had seen them several times, they are a good side and so we knew it would be tough especially in light of our injuries!
That’s how it proved in that first half, in fairness the wind which was seriously strong in the first half and that much wetter conditions at the clubhouse end was a huge factor! They penned us in and we had to defend well, which we did, plus a couple of good saves from Prycey got us in level!
2nd half was a different story, annoyingly the wind dropped significantly but even so we started on the front foot straight away and put them under a lot of pressure! We got the lead though with an absolutely stunning strike from the halfway line by Jamie Barron to give us a lead, this was doubled when Oli was brought down and their lad was sent off, (he should have gone in the 1st half!) Baz slotted the pen after a long wait, 2-0! Not long after Adam Brice got his marching orders for a 2nd booking and this lifted them. They had to throw caution to the wind and we absorbed that very well and didn’t allow them too many shots, we closed the game out very well, clean sheet and 3 points, job done!
We now have to prepare for a very difficult trip to Bristol Manor Farm, we really need the injured lads back soon, however we will train hard and go there full of confidence!
Great credit to the ground staff by the way, to get the game on when so many were off, they will now have to repair it which will be tough, as volunteers to the club we have to not forget this, massive appreciation from me and the staff and all of the players!
Well done to the boys and up the citizens!!
