Winchester 3 Didcot 1
Winchester made it three consecutive league wins as they came from behind to beat Didcot 3-1 and avenge a 4-0 defeat earlier in the season. They made two changes to the starting line-up from the team that won at Petersfield on Tuesday with Andrew Jenkinson and Adam Roberts replacing Adam Tomasso and Kieran Stephens with the last named dropping to the bench.
They however made a poor start when a long range free kick in the fifth minute from Jordi Mulvany got caught in the wind and looped over Lewis Noice in the Winchester goal. Jordan Graham, who looked dangerous with his pace shot narrowly wide and Noice had to save from Sam Barder. Sam Wilson hit the side netting for Winchester, while Robbie Matthews made an important interception to keep out the visitors.
However the game changed in the final three minutes of the half. In the 42nd minute a cross from the right from Joe Briggs was converted by Howard Neighbour. Two minutes later Leigh Bedwell in the Didcot goal was unable to hold on to an effort from Sam Wilson and Andrew Jenkinson followed up to score.
Early in the second half Adam Roberts forced a save from Bedwell, while at the other end a free kick from Declan Benjamin was saved by Noice. Sam Wilson hit the post and Andrew Jenkinson hit a free kick that was deflected wide as the home team continued to press, but Noice then made an important save to deny Graham.
inchester bought on Ross Bottomley and his strength bolstered Winchester in the second period, although both teams had chances during the remainder of the second half. However in the 87th minute Winchester made the game safe when Craig Feeney another second half substitute was put through by Stuart Green and slotted home. After that there was no doubt that Winchester would win.
On Saturday Winchester are away to Taunton and on the following Wednesday are at home to Bishops Cleeve.
