Winchester City 1 - 2 Evesham Town
Disappointing night! Playing against one of the leagues favourites pre season and you can see they are a good side, they have talented players that’s for sure and well done them for winning! For us though we didn’t play well enough, failed to control the game with the ball, something we are usually very good at, we didn’t pass the ball anywhere near well enough and it wasn’t until late in the game when we went direct that we had any joy, that’s not how we set up to play and something we will address but ultimately it was a frustrating night all round!
Game was fairly frenetic for most of the first half but they scored later in the half to give a 1-0 lead at the break. Joe Hayward was booked for a nothing decision, (after no booking for a bad tackle on Rob Carr)we were forced to a decision to take Joe off as the referee was threatening sending him off for any other tackle. Sadly before we could really get a head of steam up they scored with a pen and we are 2-0 down... we huffed and puffed and made a couple of changes and changed shape twice, it had an impact of sorts as we got a goal back from Rawks excellent cross and Rob Carr header! Sadly it was too little too late and they hung on for a 2-1 win for them.
We certainly have work to do to get back to where we were a few weeks ago, it won’t take much to click us back into gear, however I am not willing for us to sit and wait for it to happen, we will make it happen!
Roll on league leaders Yate on Saturday!
Up the citizens!
