Winchester City 1-0 Bournemouth Poppies

Well the job at the end of the day today was to get through to the next round, that is what we have done... credit to them, they are one of the most awkward sides we will play this year, literally every time they could the ball was launched in to our box from throws or free kicks etc, we had to withstand that, in fairness we coped with that element ok but we struggled to get any rhythm going in the game and didn’t play with that style we have shown time and again that we have got! Saying that though, we are through and I’m delighted with that!

We rewarded the fantastic 2nd half display on Tuesday by starting with that side today, first half was reasonably end to end but we missed a gilt edged chance by Simba, they missed a couple of decent chances too!

2nd half we were much more on top, they still threatened with long balls however we dealt with them better this time... we still didn’t get our game going fully, we did though have what looked like 2 stone wall penalty decisions turned down before eventually getting a pen for a foul on Barron, I am not sure what the moans were about as it looked another blatant one?? In any case Baz was not really with it fully and so Ty took the pen and it was saved but followed his own shot up to bag the winner. We stood firm to a few more launches in the box to get a scrappy but a vital win!

I said to the lads at the start of the game that there will be shocks today in the fa cup, there always is.... our job was to not be one of the ones who don’t get through, delighted we did that, although we know that performance levels will need to be so much better than that! Starting with Monday away to moneyfields, we will need to get back to that thatcham 2nd half level! We are a very inexperienced side and so we will be a bit up and down, however if we can scrap a result out with our spirit when we are off our levels then that’s what we will have to do!

Well done to the lads for getting the job done, we just have to move on and be ready for the games ahead and let’s hope for a home draw in the cup!!!

Up the citizens!
