Winchester City 1-4 AFC Totton

on Tue 3 Oct

Really proud of the lads for tonight, our youngsters gave a fantastic account of ourselves against a strong AFC Totton side, they ultimately proved a little bit too much for us, however bearing in mind we gave 8 debuts to players tonight and had 7x16 year olds on the pitch and only 2 players that were not teenagers on the pitch, I think it was impressive and shows what a fantastic future the club has within our excellent youth setup.

Understandably we started a little bit nervy and Totton got on top, we managed to contain them though and got ourselves into the game with skipper on the night Ben 'Chalky' White influential alongside Josh McCormick and the lively Andrady and Hill causing them problems wide. 2 great saves from their keeper from Chalky and McCormick kept us out, they scored from a fast break and we were 1 down at the break. We were very happy with the efforts though and sent them back out to go again.

Unfortunately they got a 2nd but the character of the lads was first class and they kept battling away, we got a deserved goal back when Chalkys shot was saved but Ricardo Andrady followed up to score. We then gave it a good go but couldn't get level and a bit of tiredness set in and they over powered us late on to get a 3rd and 4th, a score line that I thought flattered them a bit in the end, although they are a good side who are doing well in the league, so full credit to this group of lads.

All in all, sad to lose any game of football but really proud of the lads and their development as footballers will be that much greater for nights like this. So many excellent performances from the lads but for me Josh Corner and Josh Mccormick in particular both 16 year olds were outstanding I thought. We had the remaining 10 players in the squad training hard or getting treatment for injuries from Saturday while the game was going on, so despite the result it was a positive night for us.

We now prepare for Kidlington on Saturday, they actually have impressed us more than any other side we have played, we are sure to be in for a tough game, we will go there full of confidence.

Sorry for the result but hope you enjoyed the efforts and quality of our youngsters coming through.
