Winchester City 0-1 Moneyfields

Winchester City 2-1 AFC Totton

on Tue 20 Aug

great win for us in the end on a night when we really should have been making life a lot easier for ourselves in my opinion, we should have been out of sight really at the break and in the end had to fight back and get a winner, I guess long term that’s a better way to win though as that’s twice already we have shown character to come back from disappointment to get a more positive result!

So we went into the game with Danny King back but Rob Carr away, plus Keith Emmerson away plus Liam Gilbert unavailable due to work... so we made changes and also tactically some changes from Saturday. To be fair we dominated the whole of the 1st half with them barely in the game and chance after chance went begging, then an absolute stonewall handball penalty not given, we did though manage to score a fantastic breakaway counter attack goal, with Simba slotting in superbly well for a 1-0 lead at break.

2nd half we didn’t really come out with same intensity and they showed a bit more energy and invention than they had, we needed to try and get a grip on it again, just as we were doing that they popped up and scored to level up and it felt like two missed chances would kill us. To be fair we wrestled the control back a lot more after that and missed a couple of good chances again but did get the winner with a fine cross from Kinger was bullet headed in by Sim for his 4th goal in 2 games! We held out well after that to be fair for the last few minutes for a good win that we should have killed off but in the end had to nick it late on.

So that’s a decent start to the season, 4 from 6 points and both on paper tough games we thought and so it proved, however we are delighted, especially as we have a few availability issues through the whole of August sadly, roll on September to be honest!!!

Next we are onto Stoneham in fa cup Friday which will be tough, we know that only too well after they knocked us out the Soton Snr cup semi last year and have started the season very well. We will need to dust ourselves down and get ready for that one, look forward to it though!

Up the citizens!!!!
