Winchester City 2-1 Bishops Cleeve

on Sat 11 Nov

Phew!!!! What a relief, for long spells in that second half it looked as if the series of spurned chances were going to count against us!! Instead we popped up with a last gasp winner, slightly better feeling than the game against Salisbury/Paulson and Bristol Manor Farm where last goals cost us in games we should have won!

Strange game all day really, lost Willo to injury and we brought Adam Tomasso on, then a horrible tackle on him and his reaction had them both sent off and so I brought Danny King onto an unfamiliar RB role, 2 massive reshuffles within 25 minutes and then we had to change shape with the sending off as well. We scored via a class finish by Oli Bailey and had to be several ahead to kill the game but didn’t, so we had to be content with 1 up at the break.

2nd half again we had chances to kill it but they scored an equaliser on the break, they then had a good spell, we withstood that and then bounced back and dominated the latter stages missing some good chances, we got the goal we wanted though in the 94th minute when Oli scissor kicked in with the last kick for a great and vital 3 points!

Credit to Bishops Cleeve who stayed in the game somehow in that first half and then had a go at us in second half when they got the loft of the equaliser! I am sure they will pick up some good results in the coming weeks.

I make no real apology for the way we won it in the end with the last kick, we were far from at our best with all the reshuffling that took place, we got a bit ragged 2nd half when we were searching for the winner! It’s a massive 3 points for us that’s for sure.

Onto the next one in league at Yate who had a great result today, first though we have the Southampton snr cup at home to Nursling where we will make major changes from today’s line up.

Come on you citizens!
