Winchester City 3-2 Thatcham Town

on Tue 21 Aug

What a night!!!! There is no doubting we are good to watch and that we have spirit in abundance!! To come back from 2-0 down at the break and to get level and then a winner after going down to 10 men! What a result! Very proud of the group!!

We went in with the same squad as Saturday, we just changed Reece for Rawksy for his impact on Saturday, other than that the side who battled our result Saturday deserved the start, once again the lads on the bench attitude was spot on, we will need all of them boys and so to have that attitude is vital!

Game started and we were a little flat and it was a nothing game for a game a while, then we went behind from a penalty after what looked a harsh decision on Joe Hayward. Then we went 2 down from over playing at the back and we had it all to do. We were not great in that first half but weren’t horrendous however the 2 goals were shoddy and so we were not happy. Walking in seeing them high fiving all over the place like they had won the game, we used that motivation at the break, as well as a couple of substitutions and tactical switch...

We came out and even before the early goal in 2nd half we were on the front foot. We got a goal back with a fine bit of play down the left involving Tyrell who had come on and Reece who drove forward and scored a great finish! We were all over them, wave after wave of attacks and we got level with a wonder strike on the volley by Joe Cook! It was all us... then a big moment when Oli Bailey who had been pulled down in box he threw the player off him and was given an extremely harsh red card! Despite that we were still well on top! Then key moment a truly remarkable triple save from Prycey with them claiming it was over the line, (If we got lucky then that was truly the only thing that went for us in the game from the referee!!) we literally went up the other end and Mitford slotted a winner home brilliantly! A fantastic bit of solid defending for 5 minutes injury time followed and we got a brilliant 3-2 win! 2nd game in a row to come from behind and still win, a measure of the character of the boys!!

All that we have done is have a great start! We haven’t achieved anything but I am very proud of what we do, how we do it and we will push each other on as much as possible! We are not the finished article, in fact none of our players are the sort of finished articles that maybe we do need if we were lucky enough to have them!! However that’s exciting that we can really try and build a side and develop them, keep getting behind them, they really appreciate the support!!

Now we move onto Bournemouth poppies in FA cup on Saturday who have had a flying start to the season, we will need to be right at it! We will be ready!

Great result and thanks for the support everyone!

Up the citizens!!
