Pre-Season friendly - Southampton U23 2-2 Winchester City - Fixtures released see below

Winchester City 3-4 AFC Stoneham

on Tue 5 Mar

Sometimes I hate football!!! Just when things are going well you get a kick like tonight! To score 3 goals and still lose the game is just not good enough from the group, 3 of the goals were truly awful, 2 OGs and one really poor defensive error has cost us dearly today, saying that though we didn’t play well enough in general play either. Very disappointing but well done to Stoneham on their win.

We went into the game with a few changes from Saturday but a strong side nonetheless. Pitch was very good and I was confident we would move the ball around well! Sadly that didnt really happen although we did open them up a fair few times but nowhere near enough, we went ahead when Joe Hayward burst down the right and Oli Bailey finished, that should have been the catalyst to go on... instead we sleep walked our way into conceding and suddenly it was 1-1 at the break.

Came out second half after the break and scored from a Simba header, we looked quite comfortable at that point but a cross was put in too easily and Kinger put it into his own net... we went straight up the other end and scored with a good finish by Oli... then they equalised when Josh made an uncharacteristic error that allowed them into score an equaliser. Then right at the death another OG this time by Joe Hayward and we had lost!!

It’s a real shame for the lads to miss out on the showpiece final, it will hurt them a lot and I hope it does and pushes them on! Today our defending was poor... however of late they have been magnificent and so I won’t let them take the blame. We attack and defend as a team! We win, lose and draw as a team! They have all been phenomenal this season, we have to play at our absolute maximum to win games in this league and that can be draining, hopefully today will give them a real push for what I truly see as the more important game at the weekend.

Sorry for the whole club that we have failed tonight, let’s not lose sight of what these boys have done and they will be hurting! Hopefully we can raise them for Saturday at home to Street! We picked up a fair few injuries as well tonight, Baz having to come off and 3/4 carrying niggles late in the game, let’s get them all lifted and ready for the weekend!

Up the citizens.
