Winchester City 4 Truro City 0
In the battle between the county towns of Hampshire and Cornwall involving two Cathedral cities Winchester emerged victorious and reached the c3rd qualifying round of the F A Cup for only the second time in more than 60 years.
Truro were two divisions above Winchester and were unbeaten in their last three league games. Winchester welcomed Jamie Brown, Danny King, Howard Neighbour and Adam Roberts back into the starting line-up with Robbie Matthews not available and Sam Wilson, Jason Silver and Matthew Evans on the substitutes bench.
Winchester however made a positive start to the game with Howard Neighbour forcing a save from the Truro goalkeeper early on, Jamie Brown hitting the post with a header and Stuart Green stinging the hands of the visitors goalkeeper. However Winchester did take the lead in the 21st minute when Craig Feeney fund himself clear and made no mistake. Seven minutes later it was 2-0 when Tom McHale in the Truro goal was unable to hold on to Craig Feeney's shot and Joe Griggs was on hand to score.
When Craig Feeney scored his second and his fifth in the F A Cup tie this season after being set up by Adam Roberts in the 37th minute Winchester were in a strong position, However Truro almost pulled a goal back following a goalmouth scramble, but somehow the ball stayed out.
In the second half Lewis Noice made good saves from a Ryan Brett free kick and Niall Thompson, and were generally solid at the back with every player working hard. However the home team were creating chances of their own and McHale had to save from Joe Briggs and Stuart Green had a goal disallowed. Howard Neighbour made it 4-0 in the 72nd minute and Winchester could have added further goals as they completed as memorable victory having started the match as underdogs.
