Winchester City 6-1- Slimbridge

on Sat 16 Mar

Another brilliant result and display, playing against a side who always cause us problems, to produce another performance like that and to win 6-1 in atrocious windy conditions was very pleasing!!

We went into it without Rob Carr and Brett Cunningham injured although not too far away from return, plus long term absentees Griggsy and George Short, we did welcome new signing David Jerrard into the squad though. We started with the same lineup as last weekends great win against Street.

We were playing into the very strong wind first half, we started very brightly in fairness but couldn’t get ahead, they then showed they are a very capable side by breaking forward to score after having Prycey made a great save just before, we then had a 10-15 minute poor spell before we gradually worked our way into the game. Oli scored a one on one after a great ball from Baz, then Sim scored after we had the ball blocked on the line several times to put us 2-1 ahead. Next a handball after a great move and cross by Oli resulted in a penalty that Baz tucked away, then it was 4 with Josh scoring a header from a Baz corner, 4-1 at the break, plus them down to 10 men as their forward had 2 very obvious yellow cards midway through the first half.

We sent the lads back out wanting to control the game, not get caught trying to score goals and leaving it open, we wanted to control possession which we did very well and they rarely got a hold of the ball 2nd half. We scored from Simba with a nice finish, then wrapped it up 6-1 with IK who again had been brilliant scoring a good goal. In between that we hit the woodwork several times and could have had a lot more. We also rested Baz, Oli and Sim which was good as they are carrying a few knocks, the subs all came on and did very well.

All in all a brilliant result for us and very pleasing! We just have to keep it going now! Next up is a trip to Larkhall which is a tough game, they are a decent side and so we will need to prepare properly for that one. We will train hard as always and go there full of confidence.

Well done to all the boys!

Up the citizens!
